Bael Consists of unripe or half ripe fruits
of the plant known as Aegle marmelos Cort. family Rutaceae.

It is indigenous to India and found in
Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Chemical
Constituents
The
chief constituent of the drug is marmelosin (0.5 per cent), which S. is a
furocoumarin. Other coumarins are marmesin, psoralin, p umbelliferone. The drug
also contains carbohydrates (11 - 17 per cent),
protein, volatile oil and tannins. The pulp also Contains good amount of
vitamin C and vitamin A. Two alkaloids O-methylhalfordinol and
isopentylhalfordinol have been isolated from the fruits.
Uses
1.
It is used as digestive,
appetizer and also used in the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery.
2.
It is also used as a tonic.
